Why do my iPhone photos open as HEIC instead of JPG?
HEIC is Apple’s default photo format since iOS 11 — it compresses better than JPG, but many apps, older devices and Windows PCs don’t open it directly. Converting to JPG fixes that compatibility gap.
Is this really processed on my device?
Yes. This tool loads a small WebAssembly decoder in your browser to read the HEIC format, then re-encodes it as JPG — all locally. It’s the one tool on this site that needs a real library rather than plain browser APIs, since no browser can decode HEIC natively, but nothing about that changes where the processing happens: your photo never reaches a server.
Can I convert multiple photos at once?
Yes, drop as many HEIC files as you want and each one converts independently. Once they’re done you can download them one at a time or all at once.
Will I lose photo quality converting to JPG?
A small amount, since JPG is a different lossy format than HEIC. The default quality (90%) keeps the difference visually negligible for normal viewing and sharing.
